News
Good news! I've checked out the NEW 12-disc DVD set of the COMPLETE Granada Sherlock Holmes series, with Jeremy Brett; I wanted to see the set before I buying it to see how different it was to my OLD DVDs. And WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

I watched the episodes with the worst quality first — such as the speed and sound problems on "Final Problem" and "Silver Blaze"; image quality of "Bruce-Partington Plans", the grainness and scratches of "Scandal in Bohemia", etc. — and, damnit, they fixed it! No more speed problems, the sound is synched, the transfers are vibrant and beautiful — yes, they DID transfer the film from the original negatives! The packaging and the uniform menus (without the wierd bugs of the previous DVDs) is beautifully designed.

The flaws: For some odd reason, Edward Hardwicke is displayed on Disc 1, when it should be David Burke. They are NO additional special features; it's the same features in the original DVD releases. Some of the episodes are still a little grainy; although they are transferred from the original negatives, MPI did not REMASTER them, so the grainness is rather noticeable on big HD televisions. And Jeremy's birthdate is still 1935 when it is correctly 1933.

Other than that, it's great set! I highly recommend it; the collection MUST for every Brettian! It's retailed at $299.98, but the cheapest I've seen it is at Costco for $139.99!
